It sounds obvious, but honestly - do you get your 5 day (or more) consistently every day? We are talking fresh or cooked fruit and veggies; orange juice from the shop doesn't count, regardless what it says on the box.
When it comes to nutrition, prioritising quality over quantity can lead to lasting health benefits and a more enjoyable relationship with food. Emphasising whole foods—those that are minimally processed—is your way to a more sustainable and enjoyable way of eating. Honestly, what's better than nourishing your body while satisfying your palate? Optimise your nutritional intake with a balanced plate featuring the winning combination of vegetables, fruits, quality proteins, whole grains, and beneficial fats.
Creating a balanced meal plan doesn’t have to be complex.
Healthy eating starts by filling your plate with vibrant, seasonal produce that not only adds colour but also boosts your vitamin intake. Every snack and meal should include a source of protein, whether it's legumes, fish, meat, or other options, to ensure you're meeting your body's needs and feel satisfied. Top up your plate with a portion of whole grains like quinoa or a good sourdough, which provide essential nutrients and keep you feeling fuller for longer.
Remember, it’s not just about what you eat, but how you feel while and after eating it. Prioritise whole, unprocessed foods, experiment with flavours and colours, and discover the joy of truly nourishing your body. By shifting your focus to quality, you can cultivate a healthier relationship with food that supports both overall health and wellbeing through optimum nutrition.
And the best part? The more veggies and good stuff you eat, the more your body will crave them! The same goes with sugar, so choose wisely!
Here are some of my handpicked nutritious meals:
Hummus with bell peppers and cucumber + nuts and berries.
Beef (attention all low in iron!) with roast veggies and fine beans.
Egg and avocado on sourdough slice with more avocado and egg and smoked salmon and salad.
Duck breast with broccoli, carrot and rice.
